I took an interest in 4D art after a short photography class and playing around with the different capabilities of my inexpensive camera. I really enjoyed the photos of Picasso using a penlight to make art that existed really outside of the normal capabilities of a human’s ability to perceive.

Without the camera’s existence as a tool to record these acts, there is no proof of them ever occurring. An individual might see a person wave a light around but without the camera there to capture that 30s seconds of activity into a single frame, there is no way for a person to translate or infer meaning from it.

Music and Video both involve recording devices to capture and preserve in real-time the activity being performed. However, light painting really violates our understanding of time by capturing the entirety of an act into a single still frame. The concept is extremely cool to me.
